A highly bespoke balustrade designed, fabricated and installed by Studio MASH. Built from solid oak and birch plywood using a technique called 'kerfing' – whereby slices of material are removed in order to make it flexible – the rail runs continuously across four floors of a house in North London.

The flexible rail was secured in place and the gaps subsequently filled with black pigmented resin, cast in-situ to fix the rail's position and provide rigidity. The black resin and natural timber tones contrast boldly, with every bend and joint accented and celebrated.
